Mount Batten Centre and the National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth, Devon Saturday 7 July 2007
The British Splash-in Championship - 2007, organised by the British Society of Underwater Photographers (BSoUP) in association with the National Marine Aquarium, will take place on Saturday 7 July at the Mount Batten Centre and the National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth, Devon. All underwater photographers are invited to participate, whether they are members of BSoUP or not.
There are two competitions - images taken on the day (film or digital) and prints taken prior to the event will be judged by the audience. Prizes, trophies and individual awards will be presented for winning images in each category (see below for full details). In addition, a grand prize will be awarded for the image selected by an independent panel of judges as the best taken in local waters on the day. This year's panel of judges consists of Kelvin Boot,
Director of the National Marine Aquarium, John McIntyre, award-winning underwater
film-maker and BBC journalist, and Peter Rowlands, editor of Underwater
Photography Magazine.This is again a fabulous one week liveaboard holiday in the Red Sea generously donated by Tony Backhurst Scuba.
Viewing and judging of the on the day images entered will take place at the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth on the Saturday night. Note that water taxis between the Mount Batten Centre and the Aquarium will be available. A barbeque will be held prior to film competitors receiving their processed film back. The cost is £8.50 and there is a vegetarian option.
TIMING
Entries for the Print Competition must be sent by post to Mike Russell at the address on the entry form to arrive no later than Wednesday 23 May 2007. They can also be brought to the May BSoUP meeting on Wednesday 16 May 2007. The Print Competition will be on display at the National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth from 16 June, for judging by Aquarium visitors (see below for more details).
While entries for the on the day Splash-in are not mandatory in advance, if possible please register your intention to attend by Wednesday 27 June latest (sooner if possible), or by including an on the day entry form with your print competition entry. Numbers for the barbeque are essential in advance, as are the number of film entries. If you have not registered in advance we cannot guarantee barbeque tickets or first choice of film.

The winning Humorous/Creative shot will receive the AP Valves Trophy and a Buddy jacket kindly donated by AP Valves.
The runner-up in each category will receive a book kindly donated by Edge Underwater Photography or by Ultimate Sports.
PRINTS
The winner of the British & Irish Print category will receive a £250 voucher from Ocean Optics Ltd, and a year's family membership to the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth.
The winner of the Overseas Print category will receive a £250 voucher from Cameras Underwater, and a year's family membership to the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth.
The winner of the Advanced Print category will receive the Greenaway Marine Trophy, an Olympus SP-550 digital camera donated by Olympus and a year's family membership to the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth.
The runner-up in each category will receive a book kindly donated by Edge Underwater Photography or by Ultimate Sports.

VOLUNTEERS PLEASE
The Society would be pleased to hear from any member or guest who will be at the Mount Batten Centre or the National Marine Aquarium on the day of the competition and would be willing to help in any way. Volunteers are required to hand out voting slips, count votes, answer enquiries etc. Please contact any committee member if you would be willing to help your Society on this busy weekend.
SAFETY
All participants are reminded that diving safety is their responsibility. BSoUP recommend that all diving be carried out in accordance with currently accepted codes of practice. BSoUP cannot accept liability for any incident arising from the event.
If you are diving in Plymouth Sound you should use a Surface Marker Buoy at all times.
