Galapagos by Josef Litt
Galápagos by Josef Litt

About Josef Litt:
'When I was a little boy growing up in Czechoslovakia, the TV programmes directed by the communist regime turned out usually dull.  A natural history series running every Friday afternoon was one of the few exceptions. I dreamt of becoming an adventurer shooting movies in Africa and the depth of the ocean. There was a darkroom in our school, and I started spending hours developing pictures taken with a small camera of eastern provenance. This early romance was interrupted by my fascination with computers. Only much later, when every respectable man enjoys the ride of the mid-life crisis, my love for nature reignited. I tried underwater photography in 2007 and, in a few years' time, the childhood dream became a reality.’

DEEP Indonesia 2018 - Results

DivePhotoGuide and Wetpixel are very proud to announce the winners of the 2018 DEEP Indonesia International Underwater Photo Competition. In conjunction with the Our World Underwater International Photo and Video Competition, the contest constitutes what has become known as the “Super Bowl” of underwater imaging competitions, offering more than $100,000 in prizes.

This year’s DEEP Indonesia contest once again attracted thousands of entries from all over the world, with photographers vying for awesome travel prizes to dive destinations from Indonesia to Fiji, as well as awesome equipment prizes.

This year’s judging panel included professional underwater photographer Daniel Botelho, DPG Editor Joanna Lentini, Wetpixel Associate Editor Abi Mullens, and DPG Editor-at-Large Joe Tepper.

Special congratulations to Yung-Sen Wu, who earned the “Best of Show” award with a jaw-dropping image of a blue-ring octopus tending its eggs, which was shot, appropriately enough, in the iconic Indonesian locale of Lembeh. Grant Thomas also deserves a special mention for bagging Gold in both the Divers and Over-Unders categories! Our congratulations to all the winners—and honorable mentions.
