David Alpert

David grew up in South Africa where he began diving  at the age of 16.  "I literally counted down the days to my sixteenth birthday so I could take the course. (In those days that was the minimum age.) 30 years later I entered my first underwater photographic competition – BSOUP March 2016 focus on "Light" and came second. No turning back and firmly bitten by the bug, I went on to take part in the annual North Carolina Great Shark shootout which I was fortunate enough to win.  Having originally started with underwater video in 1991  I now use a Canon 5D Mark III – enjoying the additional creative dimensions that come with still photography".

Colin Doeg receives DIVER Lifetime Achievement Award

Congratulations to Colin Doeg who was presented with Diver magazine's first Lifetime Achievement Award at the Diveshow held at the NEC Birmingham last month.

A cub reporter during WW2, Colin took up photography and became an award winning photographer. He started diving in the early 1960's and was soon portraying the underwater world. A former British Underwater of the Year, Colin also took the first picture in British waters ever to win an open underwater competition as well as the first pictures of a basking shark feeding.

For all his own achievements in underwater photography, it is for his selfless contributions to helping others attain success that he received the award. In 1967, with the late Peter Scoones, he co-founded the British Society of Underwater Photographers.
