Robert Parrington - Wakatobi

Something a little different, Robert's presentation will enlighten us about the opportunities for a remarkable photographic trip to Wakatobi.   Established twenty years ago,  Wakatobi is a small but rather nice resort in Sulawesi and now enjoys an enviable reputation as one of the world’s best dive resorts focused on reef and macro environments. Robert will also be talking about a trip planned for next year when Marine Biologist and underwater photographer Richard Smith will be hosting a visit to include a Live-aboard and Resort based tour.

Theme Portfolio Competition

A portfolio of three images linked by a theme of the photographer's choice. The competition is now closed. BSoUP Members may view the 25 entries by clicking on this link.

The competition has been judged by BSoUP member Mark Drayton who will present the results for the top six along with some comments at the meeting.

Mark, a retired Consultant Paediatrician, lives in Cardiff yet rarely misses a BSoUP meeting. Given that he has only completed a few hundred dives, his success rate at competitions is impressively high.
Martyn Guess - How I got the shot - Macro Part 11

Continuing his presentation of last year, Martyn will talk about the equipment and the techniques he uses to get his images. Opening up his portfolio he will show the audience specifically how he took a range of macro  photographs including tiny subjects taken in the Philippines.
Martyn has been taking underwater photographs for 20 years and won the Underwater Excellence portfolio competition in 2015 for the second time having also come second in between. Last year he also won a major prize in the Raja Ampat Government’s R4 West Papua Underwater Photo Contest and has regularly featured in BSoUP and other major competitions as well as photo club events. He is also currently leading some long haul photo trips for Scubatravel pitched at a market in between those led by Alex Mustard and Paul Duxfield.
