Backscatter expands Go Pro Flip filter family

Backscatter has announced the release of new filter mounts and filters for the GoPro HERO3 camera. Part of their Flip filter family, the Flip 3.1 has a universal filter shape that allows it to be used with the existing side-hinged design, or with a new top-hinged version. Next BSoUP Meeting

The next BSoUP meeting takes place on Wednesday, 21st August 2013 at 7.30 for 8.00 p.m. in Room G.01 in the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, South Kensington, London, SW7 5BD (Directions). New and prospective new members will be welcomed from 7.30 p.m. See Welcome.

An evening with Martin Edge: Inspiration for All  The talk is a refreshed and updated look at my "Think & Consider' approach to u/w photography.  It was conceived with the sole intention of improving the skills, abilities and creative thinking of the audience in attendance.  In essence it's all about my way of 'doing things'.  Many years ago I learnt that to achieve great pictures we have to think about great pictures whilst we're underwater. This 'underwater' attitude is at the forefront of my whole approach and is fundamental to my teaching, coaching and mentoring philosophy. You won't be disappointed!
Martin has been around the underwater photo circuit since the early 80's. He first attended BSOUP in 83, won Best Beginner portfolio in 85 and then a string of BSoUP competitions, Bovisand Splash-In's etc. A dedicated Nikonos user for many years, he started writing travel articles for Diver and Subaqua Scene magazine.  In the late 80's together with Jim Eldridge, Martin took a 6 projector underwater Audio Visual 'on the road' around UK, Ireland and Europe.

In 1989 He found himself in a classroom, teaching photography to several divers from Poole and the rest as they say 'is history'.  He began running UWP courses in Bournemouth in 1991 and shortly afterwards, photo  workshops around the world. His first book was published in 1996 and since then he has written a total of 4 editions of The Underwater Photographer, with numerous foreign translations.

Martin became an Life Member of BSoUP in 2009 for his contributions to  photography.  In 2012 he sponsored a special competition for BSoUP members.  The winner, an up and coming photographer selected as someone with potential, won a day's course with Martin.  This year will see his 264th u/w photo article in Sport Diver magazine (one article a month for the last twenty two years). He's a regular presenter together with Alex Mustard at both LIDs and NEC Dive shows. He teaches one to one courses in Bournemouth and together with his wife Sylvia continues to hold workshops abroad.

Focus On - British Wide Angle

The competition is now closed. There are a total of 28 entries. BSoUP Members may view all the entries in the Competition Slideshow. You will be prompted to log in if you have not already done so this session.

Blackfish
Blackfish

Blackfish now showing in Canada, USA and UK

Blackfish tells the story of Tilikum, a performing killer whale that killed several people while in captivity. Along the way, director-producer Gabriela Cowperthwaite compiles shocking footage and emotional interviews to explore the creature's extraordinary nature, the species' cruel treatment in captivity, the lives and losses of the trainers and the pressures brought to bear by the mulit-billion dollar sea-park industry. This emotionally wrenching, tautly structured story challenges us to consider our relationship to nature and reveals how little we humans have learned from these highly intelligent and enormously sentient fellow mammals.
