The next BSoUP meeting takes
place on Wednesday, 19th November 2008 at 7.30 for
8.00 p.m. at our usual venue the Holland Club, Imperial College, S.

BSoUP's Beginners
Portfolio Competition
The Annual Beginners Portfolio
Competion will be held at the next meeting of BSoUP on Wednesday 19th
November. The competition is open to members and non-members alike,
provided that they have not come first, second or third in a national
or international competition, such as BSoUP's Open and Beginners
Portfolio Competitions, BSoUP or St Abbs Splash-Ins, Image, U/W
Photographer of the Year, Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Marine
Conservation Society etc.
Eachphotographer must submit a
portfolio of six images. Digital portfolios may be submittedonline
using the CompetitonsEntry
form by10pm on 18th November.
Please read the Rules and Guidance notes
before entering.
All portfolios will be judged by
the audience present at the meeting. The winner will receive the
DIVER Trophy and a cheque for £100 donated by DIVER Magazine, who
reserve the right to publish the winning portfolios.
BSoUP members
only may view all the entries in projected order in the Competition slideshow.

Epson Red Sea World of
Underwater Images
Our friends at DivePhotoGuide.com as well as the organisers of
the event are covering the Epson Red Sea World of Underwater Images
Competition in Eliat with video clips, daily reports and
images.
The "Eilat shoot out" started
this week and runs through until Saturday, when an outstanding
$80,000 worth of prizes will be presented to the winners in several
categories.
Nigel Wade who
won the DIVER competiton to take part in this year's event is
representing the magazine and the UK and Ireland. The entries for

Holley's Nudibranchs website. Anthony was introduced to nudibranchs
when he started taking macro pictures back in 1985. His site includes
some of the hundreds of nudibranchs he has seen and photographed in
over 3,200 hours of diving in over twenty countries.

BSoUP at DIVE 2008
BSoUP's stand at DIVE 2008 as
usual attracted a lot of interest with an excellent display of
member's work. For the first time the society offered one-to-one
advice and tuition to visitors. JP Trenque, Chairman (centre left),
was among those who demononstrated techniques.
BSoUP is grateful to Anthony
Holley, Bob Bailey, Gill McDonald, Jane Burnett, JP Trenque, Joss
Woolf, Len Deeley, Martha Tressler, Nigel Hollinsgworth, Paula
Bailey, Peter Ladell, Robert Cuss, Mike and Jan Maloney and Trevor
Rees who helped man the stand over the weekend.

BSoUP/RPS Distinctions
Workshop
BSoUP have
organised a Royal Photographic Society Distinctions
Workshop for this Sunday 9th November in Camden
Town.
Although the event was initially
oversubscribed, a number of members have had to drop out for various
reasons. There are now just two places for members available on a
first come first served basis. E-mail brian.pitkin@virign.net now if
you are interested.
The Workshop will be lead by

The RPS
award Distinctions at three levels - Licentiateship, Associateship

EuroTek
2008
Organised by divers for divers,
the EuroTek.08 Conference and Dive Exhibition will offer
unique insights into the world of advanced diving by encouraging a
better understanding of emerging technologies.
Staged at the Birmingham ICC
(International Convention Centre), in the United Kingdom on the
weekend of the 15th and 16th November 2008,
EuroTek.08 promises to be a highlight event on the European
dive industry calendar. There are both still and film

Mark and Eugenie Hardy
Each week we are highlighting a
BSoUP member's website.
Boogiediver the
website of Mark and Eugenie Hardy is this week's
choice. Mark first started taking underwater photographs with an
amphibious Sea and Sea MotorMarine II camera, and was otherwise armed
only with the first edition of Martin Edge's book "The Underwater
Photographer". Little did he know that he would meet and learn from
Martin who has since become his mentor and friend. Recent trips with
Martin include photographic expeditions to Lembeh Straits (Sulawesi)
