NUPG Splash-in

The 8th NUPG Summer splash-in was held in North Wales on Saturday 26th July. For once this summer we were blessed with good weather - a warm day and virtually cloudless sky.

Participants were able to dive anywhere in N. Wales, meeting at Treaddur Bay at 18.00hrs on Friday to hand in their entries - one splash-in compettitioni and two print categories - UK and Overseas.

The early risers dived Menai Bridge at 08.30hrs before moving down the coast to Trefor Pier for the rest of the day.

Visibility at Menai was little more than a metre so most entries were from Trefor - where the viz was over 5m!!

At the recent British Splash-in Championship, organised by BSoUP in association with the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth, The Wildlife Trusts set the brief for a special print category: "I can't believe it's the UK!" and asked underwater photographers to submit their shots of colourful and exotic-looking marine wildlife captured around our shores to be used for publicity purposes over the next year.

Judges from The Wildlife Trusts picked out the worthy winners, with three striking photographs shedding new light on the fascinating world beneath the waves.

Congratulations to Sally Sharrock who won the category with an image of a Corkwing wrasse (right), Dave Peake, who came second with an image of spider crabs aggregating, and Arthur Kingdon, who came third with an image of a seal.
