Coast wants divers' ideas
BBC2's Coast series is set to return - and wants good diving tales as possible programme subjects.
The fourth and fifth series of the popular marine programme are being made over the next year. The first will be filmed this summer, the second next spring. Ideas will, therefore, be welcomed by Coast at any time up to early 2009.
In the past, diving tales related in Coast have included diving off the Manacles in Cornwall, researching with Seasearch on Dover's chalk ledges, exploring the voluntary reserve at St Abbs, and meeting octopuses off Orkney.
Coast is now asking divers to help define which UK dive sites most deserve coverage; where to find marine life which is hard to find anywhere else in the country; what interesting new research projects are taking place; and what new dive sites have been found.
A theme which the programme would particularly like to explore is that of underwater caving, either in the UK or abroad in, say, Norway, Denmark or Brittany.

BSoUP
April Meeting - 16 April
This month we have a very special evening celebrating Alan
James, one
of the best known underwater photographers in the UK.
Until recently, Bristol based Alan was the face of UK Sea & Sea
underwater camera equipment. Having been involved in the industry
since the mid 1980's, his talent as an equipment specialist
is matched only by his creativity underwater and his name adorns
many a BSoUP trophy among many other awards and accolades.
His work is prolifically published, with an impressive number
of magazine contributions together with his book 'Beneath British
Seas'.
After many successful years as a winning entrant in the annual BSoUP
Splash-in events, Alan has decided to give someone else a chance and
will this year be one of the organisers of the competition.
Alan is travelling to London this Wednesday evening with his daughter
Anna, whose work won top prize at the 2007 beginners portfolio competition.
Together, they have prepared a surprise evening for us. Themed 'Presentation
by the AJs'.

photography
has to teach underwater photographers.

Stoney Cove/DIVER Magazine
Digital Photo Splash-In
Saturday 12 April 2008
8am on the quayside
Underwater photographers of all abilities are welcome to participate in this on-the-day digital competition.
Competitors are welcome to turn up later but many of the best results in previous years have been from early starters. You can pre-register or simply turn up on the day.
The formation last October of the East Midlands Underwater Photographers group, whose monthly meetings at Stoney Cove attract 50-70 attendees, has raised expectations of the number of competitors for this year's Digital Splash-In.
There will be three categories: close-up, wide-angle and aquatic life, and the £5 entry fee covers all. Up to 3 pictures can be entered in each category. The competition is digital only and computers will be available to download images and select entries.
There will be prizes for the winners, and free hot drinks and magazines from the DIVER Magazine marquee (near the shower-block) for competitors, supporters and other divers enjoying a dip in Stoney Cove.
