Technical talk - Top tips on underwater photography by Linda Pitkin

JP Trenque's © winning Theme Portfolio 2007

A hugely accomplished underwater photographer, Linda Pitkin has been a popular and regular member of BSoUP for many years. During this time she has published four books and been awarded numerous awards in national and international competitions. In 2003, she was inducted to the prestigious Women Divers Hall of Fame for her contribution to the underwater environment. To find-out more about Linda, check-out her website at www.lindapitkin.net

Annual competition: Theme portfolio

This competition is open to paid-up BSoUP members only.

Each member can submit a portfolio of six images arranged in two rows of three.  All portfolios will be judged by the audience present at the meeting.  The winner will receive the BSoUP Theme Portfolio Trophy and a cheque for £100 donated by Ultimate Sports.  Please check the rules and entry form.

Main event - Wreck photography by John Liddiard

This talk will be about wreck diving, wreck photography and DIVER magazine's wreck tour series. Not so much how to take photographs, as how to photograph wrecks and what to take photographs of when diving wrecks.

A freelance diving photographer and journalist, he has dived full-time since 1998. Among his many published features, you have probably read his wreck tours in the pages of Diver.

In March of 1999 John became an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society (ARPS). His photography and web site have won several awards, including "highly commended" in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition for a picture of a spawning starfish.

Copies of "Shoot To Thrill Policy" can be requested from Jeremy and Amanda's website at www.ja-universe.com

The JA-Universe website features a selection of photographs and articles with particular emphasis on scuba diving and travel, although other topics such as abstracts and black and white photography are also included.

BSoUP were represented at the London International Dive Show during the weekend of 8-9th March at ExCEL in docklands. As usual there was a lot of interest from the visiting public.

A dozen stunning new images were on display on the stand and some of BSoUP's 40th Anniversary exhibition prints brightened an otherwise blank wall backing onto the Shark Trust's collection.

The Society is grateful to all those members who gave up their time to man the stand.
