Official launch of the New York
Underwater Photo Society
The new organization will
bring together underwater photographers and videographers from the
tri-state area NY to share and learn about the world of underwater
imagery and marine conservation.
|
 |
January 24, 2007(New York, NY):
New York, a mecca of art and culture, now has an outlet for
underwater photographers and videographers of all levels to share and
learn about the world of underwater imagery, scuba diving, and marine
conservation. During an age of increased awareness of the perilous
state of our world's oceans, NYUPS will provide a forum for divers
and photographers to share the beauty of the marine environment as
well as the atrocities that occur in the ocean's every
day.
NYUPS aims to bring together
underwater photography and video enthusiasts and professionals from
the tri-state area. The society will be open to novices, amateurs and
pros. Even those from outside the region are welcome to become
members. NYUPS provides a forum to meet new friends who share similar
underwater interests. Members will participate in monthly workshops,
photo and video contests and exhibitions. Meetings will take place in
Manhattan, at a location TBA.
|
Exciting monthly featured
speakers will include internationally renowned photographers,
filmmakers, marine biologists, explorers, and adventurers from around
the world.
"Underwater photo societies
operating in other markets such as California, Florida, Texas, or
Hawaii for example, have been successful in bringing together a
community of like minded people who share more than an interest -
they share a passion - for diving and underwater imagery. New York,
with our large number of divers and underwater photographers has not
had such a forum and helpuntil now", says Jason Heller, NYUPS
President.
To register for more information
and details on the first meeting, scheduled for mid-April, please
visit the society's website at www. NYUPS.org.
Beginning in 2008, NYUPS will
host annual photo expeditions to some of the world's most bio-diverse
hot spots. The society will also launch an international underwater
photo and video competition and festival. For more information please

We kick off with our very
own and very lovely JP Trenque reprising his role at the
London Visions conference last November. If you have been using
a digital camera for more than two weeks, you will
probably already have quite a collection of images. JP has
recently discovered a new method of cataloguing and
storing your photos. He will share his tips on naming, ranking
and keywording your picture files to allow easy storage, access
and retrieval. JP has enjoyed increasing success in recent
years not least of which was being voted BBC News Photographer
of the Year 2005 and only last week his 'Life beneath the
waves' portfolio was featured prominently on the BBC News

Main event:
Digital epiphany of an old pro by John
Bantin.
John is the highly experienced
technical editor of Diver magazine. Following a long and successful
career as a first-division photographer in UK advertising, in 1990 he
transferred all his efforts to photographing and writing about the
world of diving and has been doing so ever since. Recently, he
finally launched himself into the digital world. His talk will
describe his 'digital epiphany' - the pitfalls and challenges
for an 'old pro' (his words!) on the road to abandoning film and
completely embracing electronic image-gathering. Much of John's work
is on www.divernet.com and his
own website is at www.johnbantin.co.uk

Want to sell your pics? If you intend to
sell your portraits for commercial use of any kind then you need a
signed model release form. The model (and quite often buildings too)
has legal rights as to how and where the pictures are used.
A model release form is basically a contract that releases the model's
rights to influence picture usage. It should include both the
photographer's and model's names, date, fee (if any), location and a
statement explaining that the model fully understands that he or she is
giving up all rights to the images. If the model is under 18 years of
age you'll also need the signature of a parent or legal
guardian. |
|
You can download a Model Release
Form here as an rtf file.
Open it in your favourite Wordprocessor and add your own
logo.
