BSoUP meeting: Wednesday
16 June at 7.30 for 8.00 p.m.
The
Holland Club, Imperial College, London SW7 5BD.
This month
we are very proud to present our 'resident' husband and wife
team Linda and Brian Pitkin. Both are extremely experienced
and accomplished photographers and both have the honour of
being life members of BSoUP.
PHOTO
TECHNIQUES - COMPOSITION by LINDA PITKIN
By profession,
Linda is a biologist studying insects at The Natural History
Museum in London, and for decades her passion for nature has
led her to photograph marine life with equal enthusiasm. She
approaches her image making with a biologist's fascination
for living organisms, but even more with a photographer's
eye for composition and lighting. She believes that achieving
good composition is what photography is all about and is as
basic
as focus and exposure. She will use her photographs to demonstrate
a range of ideas, many of which are very simple, about what
goes into making good pictures.
Linda is
the author and photographer of four books, and her photographs
feature widely in books, magazines and various other media.
Linda has won many national and international photographic
awards, and in 2003 she proudly
became an honouree in the Women Divers Hall of Fame. For some
samples of Linda's work see her website at www.lindapitkin.net

FOCUS
ON COMPETITION - PATTERNS
We will
shortly be introducing regular digital competitions. However,
for June we stick with slide format. Maximum two 35mm slides
of 'Patterns', visible dot on the bottom left hand corner
as you wish the slide to be viewed, no sticky labels please.
WEB
TECHNIQUES - CREATING YOUR OWN WEBSITE by BRIAN PITKIN
Brian will
introduce, discuss and demonstrate the practice of creating
a simple pictorial website using Dreamweaver.
Currently
President of BSoUP, Brian served as Editor of the Society's
newsletter "in focus" between 1983 and 1996 and
Chairman between 1987 and 1998. Along with Mike Portelly,
he is currently one of Diver Magazine's Photography Editorial
Consultants. Brian has contributed more than 90 articles on
Underwater Photography to Diver Magazine and other underwater
publications and also took the underwater photographs for
Reg Vallintine's book "Learn to Scuba Dive in a Weekend".
Brian has been on the judging panel in underwater festivals
in Egypt, France, Indonesia, the Seychelles and the United
Kingdom.
In his
spare time he is webmaster for both BSoUP and his wife's websites:
and www.lindapitkin.net
It
should be an extremely interesting and informative evening.
For those who can make it, see you there.
