The Holland Club, Imperial College, London SW7 5BD.

Photo Techniques: UK photography - Dave Peake

Dave will talk about a slightly different photographic approach, that of taking images in the Plymouth and Cornwall areas by free diving.

Dave has been diving in the Plymouth area of the South West for 44 years and was involved during that time in Police Diving, Commercial Diving, Sports Diving, DDRC Hyperbaric Treatment and of course, Underwater Photography. Describing himself as 'one of the Last of the Summer Divers', he enjoys sharing his experiences and displaying fascinating images of the underwater
world to various groups and organisations. Dave is also deeply concerned with marine conservation and is currently involved in serious pollution projects in the Plymouth area involving ' dumping at sea'.

Focus On Competition: Front cover shot (for future edition of in focus).

Following 'Dive' editor Simon Rogerson's informative talk last month, the competition is for a magazine front cover shot. The winner will be published on a future front cover of our own 'in focus' magazine.

Main Event: Journey under the Sea - turning photography into a book- Linda Pitkin

It is with great pleasure and pride that we present Linda Pitkin, who will be showing photographs from her latest book: Journey under the Sea (a children's book).

This features a range of eye-catching subjects varying from shrimps to sharks and mantas, taken in Indonesia and various other Indo-Pacific locations. She will explain how she took the photographs, how they were
selected for the book, and how the book was designed.

Linda is a long standing member of BSoUP and a very highly acclaimed and respected underwater photographer. She has had many successes in national and international events, including the 'Festival Mondial de l'Image Sous Marine' (Antibes) and 'The Wildlife Photographer of the Year' competition. She is also the author of four books on marine natural history. Her photographs have been published widely in books, magazines, calendars and various other media including an IMAX multi-screen presentation. She has
recently been inducted into the 'Women Divers Hall of Fame' (see News - April).

As ever, whilst we realise not all members have easy access to the London meetings, we feel it is useful to keep you informed of the meeting contents and competitions. You can enter the monthly competitions by post - details
