Focus On Slideshow
Focus On Red Slideshow

Focus On - Red (Definition: anything alive under water that is red: fish; other marine animals; or whatever you can find.) The Competition is now closed. There were a total of 46 entries, 30 of which have been shortlisted for projection. Entrants whose images have not been shortlisted have been notified by e-mail.  BSoUP Members only may view the shortlisted entries in the Competition Slide Show. You will be asked to login if you have not already done so this session.

Stuart PhilpottCreating Front Covers.  Stuart has achieved more than 70 diving magazine front covers (UK and overseas) in the past 10 years so he must be doing something right!

He is a full time professional underwater photographer and journalist so getting the money shot is all important. On a magazine assignment a front cover shot tops up the invoice and he also admits to still getting a kick from seeing one of his pictures on the front! He will also show how the magazines completely ruin the picture by adding text, zooming in and cutting off scenery and in some cases the marine life. And finally he will also talk about how to sell your pictures, and how much money you can make. He says every front cover tells a funny story so be prepared!

Stuart has been taking pictures under water for the past 20 years and turned professional in 2004.  He currently has a regular arrangement with Sport Diver Magazine.  He uses a Nikon D800 in a Sea & Sea housing with 2 x YS-D1 strobes. Favourite lens is the 16mm Nikkor fisheye.

If in doubt, ask. Deadline: Monday 7th July. Please read the Rules before entering.
