Mark Koekemoer: Compact Cameras

Mark Koekemoer's underwater photography expertise is regularly sought out - he wrote the chapter on underwater compact cameras for Martin Edges' seminal techniques book andquot; The Underwater Photographerandquot;, authored the long running andquot;PhotoCall series for underwater photographers in andquot;Diver Magazine' and has been a speaker at the London International Dive Show, Scottish Sub Aqua Club Diving Conference and the Visions in the Sea underwater photography festival. Mark is manager of Ocean Optics. He will start with a brief history of the compact camera, then will talk about how compact camera accessories have opened up the ability to take very good images to the mass market, how specialist equipment can be used to do something different with old familiar subjects and images, and the role compact camera systems will play for future underwater photographers.

Focus On Competition:

Images taken in 2011 (Show us your favourite - the one which hasn't won a competition yet!).  The competition is now closed, but BSoUP Members only may view all the entries in the Competition Slideshow. You will be asked to login if you haven't already done so this session.

Joss Woolf: Come Dive With Me

BSoUP's new Chair, Joss Woolf, has been diving for 20 years and taking pictures under water for 8.  She joined BSoUP in 2003 and I think it's fair to say that her underwater photography has come on impressively ever since! Having been an ordinary Club Diver for more than 10 years,  she booked a dive-trip (outside of her Club's normal activities) to South Africa without realizing it was an underwater photography trip until a couple of weeks before. Her experience there was to lead to a dramatic and permanent change in her future diving career. She shoots with a Nikon D300 in a Sea and Sea housing with twin Inon flashguns.

Joss is going to tell us about how she got started in her now all-consuming passion and take us through her rather unexpected journey to the present time.  A curtain-maker by profession, Joss has lived in North London for the last 30 years and continues to dive with her club in Hillingdon where she can often be found playing Octopush on a Thursday night.
