March BSoUP Meeting

The next BSoUP meeting takes place on Wednesday, 18th March 2009 at 7.30 for 8.00 p.m. at our usual venue the Holland Club, Imperial College, S. Kensington, London. Directions.

Photo techniques: Anthony Holley - Creating Photobooks.

Anthony has been taking photographs under water for 25 years and now concentrates on photographing and identifying nudibranchs, particularly in Indonesia. His website at is dedicated to them, with over 1,200 pictures of 300 species, and is used as an accurate reference by many photographers.

His talk focuses on a different way to present your images by producing a photobook, resulting in a very professional hard bound book to show your friends and family.

Annual Event: Theme Portfolio Competition

Main Event: Ken Sullivan - Shooting out of the box

Ken's been diving for over forty years after a friend encouraged him to join the SSAC in 1964.
It was twenty years diving before Ken took a camera underwater, whether it was his desire to show the family where he had been all weekend, or an increasing interest in his underwater surroundings he is not sure.

In the early eighties he bought a Nikonos III on a business trip to Hong Kong and he was hooked. It took several years and one of Martin Edge's legendary weekend underwater photo courses before the odd acceptable shot, 'came off the roll'.

Ken Sullivan's website

Today Ken dives with his camera, family and friends, selecting dive venues for their reefs and animal life His three children and two of his eight grandchildren are divers, accompanying him on trips whenever possible,

His greatest achievement to-date is living this long and still doing 100+ dives a year - long may it last.

'Martin Edge, my mentor and friend, once asked me 'What do you find to photograph in the Red Sea, after diving there for so many years'? Come along to this month's meeting I will try to answer this tantalising question.'
