PHOTO TECHNIQUE

This month's presentation 'Macro' was given by GARY CLARKE. Gary reviewed the different photographic techniques required to produce macro pictures. Though a series of slides Gary showed some of the problems one encounters when starting out, e.g. having a small subject in the middle of a slide, or a good subject spoilt by a cluttered background. Gary discussed 'depth of f ield' and how it can be used to advantage in macro pictures by careful manipulation. He finished his presentation with a stunning series of slides he, modestly, said had 'worked'.

FOCUS ON

The theme for this month's FOCUS ON competition was 'British Waters'. In fourth place with 20 points was Sue Heaps. In third place with 29 points was Bob Allen. In second place was Ken Sullivan with 35 points, with a portrait of a flat fish and this month's winner with 42 points was Vicky Major with a portrait of a Seal taken in the Farne Islands. Vicky's slide will go forward to the Focus On final in November.

MAIN EVENT

The. MAIN EVENT for September was a joint presentation by ANTHONY HOLLEY and KEN SULLIVAN 'The GALAPAGOS ISLANDS'. The Slides were all taken on a recent trip organised by Martha Tressler for a group of ten photo / video enthusiasts.

Anthony introduced us to the above water creatures with some lovely close ?portrait shots of the bird life, Boobies, Herons, Eagles, Frigate birds and the flightless Cormorant, some with eggs and others with chicks. Then there were the Iguanas, Penguins and of course the wonderful Seals.
Ken followed this with his shots of the fish shoals, Galapagos Sharks, and of course the single and shoals of Hammer heads which were the main underwater attraction until the Whole sharks put in an appearance.,

Ken finished his slide presentation with three shots of a Red lipped bat fish, certainly, one of the most odd looking fish to be found in and around the Galapagos Islands.
