My Portfolio

by Girts Kravalis

I am 38 years old and I am from Latvia. I am PADI MSDT, but did my Instructor course only because wanted to prove for myself that I could finish it. I do not work in the diving industry. Diving and photography are my hobby. I took up photography in 2007. I have never attended a course on underwater photography. I just tried it whilst I travelled.

I would like to improve my photography, but the problem is diving in Latvia. We have several lakes and several rivers, but all of them have very bad visibility - maximum 3-4 metres and there is nothing much to see - only some grass and stones. The Baltic sea is near my country, where lots of wrecks are found, but the diving season is very short and everything depends on weather. Mostly we have strong winds which makes the visibility very, very bad. So I don't have many possibilities to practice.

I travel 3-4 times per year and that is the only opportunity I have to improve my skills at taking photos.

My portfolio images:

The red grouper was taken in Bali. The juvenile lionfish, turtle and squid were taken in Manado (Indonesia), the Diver with torch is taken in a cenote in Mexico, and the napoleon fish is taken in Red Sea (Egypt).
