BSoUP International Focus on Competition 2005

BSoUP's first International Competition was judged at the Society's August meeting. In addition to an invitation to participate being advertised on this website, press relaeases were sent out in six languages to diving magazines around the world. Entries were received from the UK, USA, Canada, Belgium, Greece, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, Russia, Poland, Venezuela, Thailand, Philippines, British Virgin Islands, Yap and the Cayman Islands. Alex Mustard presented the images in a powerpoint presentation, which was shown twice, the second time a little quicker than the first. The audience present then voted for their favourite three images in order of preference.

Previous to Yap, Mike worked as a photographer for 5 years aboard Aggressor Fleet vessels in the Pacific. The opportunity to dive every day in such great locations as French Polynesia and Palau helped Mike capture many great scenes on film. Mike's photo library consists of images from such diverse locations as the Galapagos Islands, New Zealand, and the Philippines. Mike's work has won several awards and appears in a variety of publications throughout the world including: Fathoms, Asian Diver, Pacific Magazine, Action Asia, Rodale's Scuba Diving, Diver, Shark Diver, and Alert Diver. For photography, Mike uses Nikon cameras and lenses, an Aquatica housing and a mixture of Ikelite and Sea and Sea strobes.
