This year we have again teamed up with
DIVER Magazine
to stage this major competition at the DIVE SHOW at the NEC,
Birmingham over the weekend of 24-25th October 2015. A total of 80 of
the best prints will be displayed at the show and all categories
judged by visitors. A panel of judges will choose the overall winner
of the grand prize.
CATEGORIES
There are four categories in the Print
Competition:
British and Irish (images taken in
UK and Irish waters)
Overseas (images taken in overseas
waters)
Advanced British and Irish (images
taken in UK and Irish waters by an Advanced entrant)
Advanced Overseas (images taken in
overseas waters by an Advanced entrant)
The Advanced categories are for anyone
who has:
either won a major national or
international underwater photographic competition
(e.g. BSoUP's Open Portfolio competition, BSoUP BIUPC, Antibes,
U/W Photographer of the Year or Wildlife Photographer of the
Year, etc.)
or takes or has taken underwater photographs for
a living
or is otherwise significantly involved in
commercial underwater photography
Competitors who match one of the
criteria above must enter the Advanced categories; all others may
enter any of the categories.
You may enter a maximum of four prints, no more than two in an Overseas category and no more than two in a British and Irish category
All short-listed prints will also be
entered in the overall competition for the grand prize to be chosen
by a panel of judges.
Anyone who is uncertain whether they
qualify as Advanced should consult the BSoUP Committee whose decision
is final
PRIZES, TROPHIES AND
INDIVIDUAL AWARDS
The best of show will be selected by
an independent panel of judges.
Grand Prize: A two-week trip 'Philippines Secrets Dive Safari'. The itinerary includes the islands of Donsol (Whale Shark), Ticao (Manta Ray) & Malaspascua (Thresher Shark) from 10-24 April 2016 led by Len Deeley, to include transfers, board, accommodation and diving, but excluding flights courtesy of Hidden Depths.
Highly Commended: One copy of 'Creating the future', 'Black & White', 'Street Life', 'General' gifted to BSoUP by Hamdan International Photography Award (HIPA).
Highly Commended: One copy of 'Life in Colour' gifted to BSoUP by Hamdan International Photography Award (HIPA).
The public will be asked to vote for
winner in each of the four categories.
The Non-advanced categories are for photographers who have never won a national or international
competition.
British and Irish Print: The winning British and Irish Print will receive a trophy, a copy of 'Glass and Water' courtesy of the author Mark Harris and an annual membership to The Wildlife Trusts of the winner's choice and a print of an etching designed by Debbie Mason courtesy of The Wildlife Trusts.
Overseas Print: The winning Overseas Print will receive a trophy, a £250 voucher courtesy of Cameras Underwater and a copy of 'Glass and Water' courtesy of the author Mark Harris.
The Advanced categories are for photographers who have previously won a national or international
competition.
Advanced British & Irish Print: The winning Advanced British and Irish Print will receive a trophy, a copy of 'Winning Images with Any Underwater Camera: The Essential Guide to Creating Vibrant Photos' courtesy of the author Paul Colley and an annual membership to The Wildlife Trusts of the winner's choice and a print of an etching designed by Debbie Mason courtesy of The Wildlife Trusts.
Advanced Overseas Print: The winning Advanced Overseas Print will receive a trophy, a £250 voucher courtesy of Underwater Visions and Nauticam UK plus a copy of 'Winning Images with Any Underwater Camera: The Essential Guide to Creating Vibrant Photos' courtesy of the author Paul Colley
Diver Magazine is mounting the prints and
providing display space at the Dive Show at the NEC, Birmingham.
PRINT RULES
Images entered must not have come first, second or
third in a national or international competition, such as BSoUP's
Open Portfolio, BSoUP's Beginners' Portfolio Competitions, BSoUP's BIUC,
St Abbs Splash-In, SAC Travel Club, U/W Photographer of the
Year, Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Marine Conservation Society
etc.
All images must have been taken within the three
years prior to 18th September 2015
One copy of each print should be supplied
unmounted as it will be mounted by the organisers.
Prints (including any borders) must be no larger than A4 size – no more than 29.7cm on the long edge, 21cm on the short edge. Only include borders if you want them to show.
Prints shall be genuine underwater photographs i.e.
not from a fish tank.
The entrant must be the photographer.
You may enter a maximum of four prints, no more than two in an Overseas category and no more than two in a British and Irish category
Prints will not be returned.
On the reverse of each print along one edge you
must put an arrow clearly showing which direction is
up. Do not write anything else directly on the reverse
of the prints
Attach a post it note or a piece of paper using a
small piece of sellotape to the reverse of each print with the
category, entrant's full name and an identifying number 1 to 4. NO
SELF-ADHESIVE LABELS - MUST BE ABLE TO PEEL OFF EASILY!
In addition, a single piece of paper must accompany
the prints, headed with the category, entrant''s full name, and
containing for each print (using the identifying number referred to
above) the category it is entered in, the subject, the location taken
and the camera used.
All entries must be sent to Dave Smith, 8 Frinton Road, Kirby Cross, Frinton-on-Sea, CO13 0LF with a completed entry form to
arrive no later than Friday 18th September 2015. Entries may also be brought
to the BSoUP meeting on Tuesday 15th September 2015.
80 short-listed prints, chosen by a panel of
judges, will be displayed at the Dive Show, NEC, Birmingham, 24-25
October 2015, for judging by visitors to the show. An
independent panel of judges will also award the grand prize.
BSoUP reserves the right to publish winning images
both in the Society magazine and on its website. Winning images may
also be used in future promotional material for the event royalty
free, but copyright remains with the photographer. BSoUP may ask for
a digital version of the image to be provided.
The organisers' decision on any matters
arising from these rules shall be final.

The top 80 entries in the Print
Competition will be on display at the DIVE SHOW, NEC
Birmingham 24-25th October. The four categories will be judged by
visitors to the Dive Show. The grand prize will be judged by a panel,
yet to be announced.
ENTRY FORM
Please complete an entry form Word.doc or Adobe.pdf and pack it with
your prints. We recommend you stiffen your package with card or
similar to prevent bending.
AWARDS CEREMONY
The awards will be presented with
their trophies and prizes at the BSoUP November
meeting, which takes place on Tuesday 17th November 2015 at 7.30 for
