Simon Brown - Winner

Simon Brown
Winner - Goose by Simon Brown

Simon Brown has dived for the last 10 years and carried a camera with him since 2002. Most of his work is in the temperate seas, often with the Royal Navy as a buddy and occasionally in the company of high explosives or gun-toting divers. Simon's work had been published in many publications throughout the world and his written work has been translated into 10 languages, including Russian and Mandarin. He's married with has two daughters and in 2008 his eldest daughter qualified in the UK as a open water diver.

Taken in Cornwall, this image of a feeding goose was conceived in a shallow lake. The goose was very tolerant of the camera and Simon spent around 30 minutes laying on the bank while his youngest daughter dropped bread in front of the lens to encourage the birds and resident carp to feed. This image is one of a half dozen from that shoot, but is the only frame with the food in the bird's beak.
